- Set up volume and pressure limited ventilators.
- Adjust and change modes of ventilations and ventilator parameters as ordered by the physician.
- Perform and document periodic ventilator check on appropriate flow sheet.
- Utilize oxygen analyzers to measure O2 concentrations.
- Interact with physicians and allied health personnel regarding the patient and the
appropriateness of therapy when necessary.
- Implement and evaluate on-going pulmonary maneuvers.
- Cleans and disinfects ventilators before and after hooking the patient using precept and spraying with Lysol disinfectant.
- Administer aerosolized medications via small volume agents, wetting agents.
- Set up and maintain appropriate oxygen delivery system like low flow and high flow systems.
Attached pulse oximeter to patients who needs their SaO2 monitored and also to see their
- response to therapy or diagnostic procedure.
- Teach pre and post-surgical patients the proper use of IS (incentive spirometer)to strengthen
respiratory muscle.
- Teach breathing exercise to patients with respiratory disease to decrease their work of
- breathing, improve their oxygenation and control of breathing.
- Administer intermittent positive pressure breathing (IPPB) to deliver aerosolized medications
- to open small airways and even distal alveoli and also help clear secretions.
- Utilize Non-invasive ventilations upon doctor's orders as a means of ventilator support which uses nasal mask and prongs when intubations or tracheostomy is not possible this is indicated
- to aid in mobilizing secretions, optimize bronchodilator therapy, prevent/reverse atelectasis and reduce air trapping.
- Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is done maintenance of airways to a pressure above atmospheric condition during spontaneous ventilation.
- Utilize weaning techniques such as T-piece, SIMV, PSV.
Endotracheal and tracheostomy care
- Endotracheal, tracheostomy tube suctioning done.
- Sterilize re- usable accessories(humidifiers, water trap, etc.) with cidex.
- Provide an on- going equipment maintenance check.
- Report all defective equipments.
- Updated patient charts with data such as medications to keep records current and support accurate treatments.
