• Contributes to the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing policies, clinical guidelines, and evidence-based standards to support the delivery of safe, recovery-oriented mental health care.
• Provides clinical and operational leadership by supervising registered nurses and support staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred mental health nursing services.
• Monitores compliance with quality assurance, patient safety, infection prevention, and clinical governance standards, promoting continuous quality improvement within the psychiatric service.
• Coordinates multidisciplinary collaboration between the Nursing Service Department and psychiatry, psychology, social work, occupational therapy, pharmacy, and other hospital services to ensure integrated and holistic patient care.
• Serves as a resource person and provides technical guidance to healthcare teams and stakeholders on quality improvement initiatives, mental health nursing practices, clinical standards, and service delivery.
• Conducts staff performance reviews, identify learning and competency gaps, and develops training plans to strengthen clinical skills, leadership, therapeutic communication, risk assessment, and recovery-oriented practice.
• Supports workforce development through mentoring, coaching, and facilitating continuing professional education to enhance the competence and confidence of nursing personnel.
• Monitors quality indicators, analyze service performance data, and prepares comprehensive quarterly reports to support strategic planning, quality improvement, and informed decision-making.
• Participates in clinical audits, incident reviews, risk management activities, and accreditation initiatives to ensure compliance with professional, legal, and organizational standards.
• Promotes a culture of patient safety, teamwork, accountability, and compassionate, trauma-informed mental health care throughout the department.
• Performes additional supervisory, administrative, and clinical responsibilities as assigned to support the effective operation of the Mental Health Service.

• Provides clinical leadership in the delivery of safe, patient-centred, and recovery-oriented mental health nursing care, ensuring high standards of practice within the psychiatric unit.
• Coordinates and supervise daily nursing activities, including patient rounds, comprehensive mental health assessments, therapeutic interventions, medication administration, and ongoing evaluation of patient outcomes.
• Monitors patients for changes in mental and physical health status, including suicide risk, self-harm, aggression, and behavioural disturbances, and promptly communicates significant findings to the multidisciplinary team.
• Supervise, coach, and evaluates the performance of registered nurses, nursing assistants, and support staff, fostering professional development and promoting evidence-based mental health nursing practice.
• Orients newly hired staff, nursing students, patients, and their families to hospital policies, mental health services, recovery principles, therapeutic communication, and patient safety standards.
• Collaborates with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
• Facilitates patient admissions, transfers, and discharge planning, ensuring continuity of care through comprehensive psychoeducation, discharge preparation, and coordination with community mental health services when appropriate.
• Maintains a safe and therapeutic ward environment by overseeing the availability, maintenance, and appropriate use of clinical equipment, supplies, and unit resources.
• Manage staffing assignments, prepares duty rosters and clinical reports, and ensures appropriate allocation of nursing resources to meet patient care needs.
• Serves as a liaison between patients, families, nursing staff, and members of the multidisciplinary team to promote effective communication, collaborative decision-making, and high-quality patient care.
• Mentors nursing students and newly employed nurses through clinical teaching, supervision, competency assessment, and constructive feedback to support their professional growth in mental health nursing.

• Conducts comprehensive mental health and risk assessments, monitors patients' mental status, and document clinical findings accurately and promptly.
• Administers prescribed psychotropic medications and therapeutic interventions safely, while monitoring for effectiveness and adverse reactions.
• Implements medical and multidisciplinary treatment plans in collaboration with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
• Observe, assess, and promptly report changes in patients' mental and physical conditions, including risks related to self-harm, suicide, aggression, or deterioration.
• Facilitates patient admission, orientation, transfer, and discharge processes, ensuring continuity of care and providing individualized psychoeducation to patients and their families.
• Establish therapeutic relationships through effective communication, emotional support, de-escalation techniques, and crisis intervention to promote patient recovery and well-being.
• Assists psychiatrists and other clinicians during diagnostic evaluations, therapeutic procedures, and emergency psychiatric interventions.
• Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely documentation in accordance with professional, legal, and organizational standards.
• Promotes a safe therapeutic environment by implementing infection prevention measures, safeguarding practices, and strategies to manage challenging behaviours.
• Participates in multidisciplinary case conferences, ward rounds, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and service delivery.
