The School Health Nurse provides primary health care services, implements health and nutrition programs (including the School-Based Feeding Program), and promotes the overall physical, mental, and social well-being of learners and personnel in the Department of Education.
Health Program Implementation • Implement school health programs in line with DepEd policies, including: • School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP) • National Drug Education Program (NDEP) • School Dental and Medical Services • Health Education and Health Promotion • Conduct health screening, physical assessment, and monitoring of learners’ nutritional status. • Coordinate vaccination, deworming, and micronutrient supplementation activities in schools. 2. Case Management & Clinical Services • Provide first aid and emergency care for learners and personnel. • Assess and manage minor illnesses; refer severe cases to appropriate health facilities. • Monitor and follow up on students with medical or nutritional concerns. 3. Data Management and Reporting • Maintain accurate health records of learners. • Prepare periodic health reports and program accomplishment reports for submission to the SDO and DepEd Central Office. • Conduct health-related surveys and program evaluations. 4. Health Promotion and Advocacy • Conduct health education sessions for learners, parents, and teachers. • Advocate for healthy school environments and practices. • Participate in wellness activities for both learners and school personnel. 5. Collaboration and Coordination • Work closely with school heads, teachers, guidance counselors, and parent-teacher associations to address health concerns. • Coordinate with Local Government Units (LGUs), DOH, NGOs, and other stakeholders for health program support. • Assist in disaster preparedness and emergency response in schools. 6. Administrative Functions • Assist in the planning and budgeting of health and nutrition programs. • Ensure efficient use of resources for school health services. • Support implementation of DepEd orders, memoranda, and guidelines related to health and nutrition.
