- Guides student nurses during surgical procedures.
- Ensures that proper techniques are maintained throughout the procedure.
- Monitors patient care closely during surgical procedures, ensuring that patients are properly positioned, prepped, and draped for surgery.
- Oversees administration of anesthesia and maintenance of patient vital signs throughout procedure.
- Teach and reinforce proper sterile techniques to students, including scrubbing, gowning, and gloving procedures.
- Serves as liaison between surgical team members, including surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Facilitates effective communication to ensure smooth coordination and collaboration during surgical procedures.
- Assess students' skills, knowledge, and professional conduct, identifying areas for improvement and providing guidance for further development.
- Promotes professionalism, respect for patient confidentiality, and adherence to legal and regulatory standards.
- Teach students to recognize and respond to potential risks and complications during surgery, emphasizing importance of error prevention and prompt intervention.
- Mentor students and provide support as they progress in their surgical training and professional development. Offers guidance on career pathways, specialty areas, and opportunities for further specialization within field of surgery.
MEDICAL SURGICAL WARD
Eversley Child's Sanitarium and General Hospital-Affiliating Institution
(5 days rotation in a month with a maximum of 15 patients in an 8 hour shift)
- Teaches student nurses to monitor patients' conditions, including vital signs, pain levels, and responses to treatments or interventions. Alert healthcare team members to any changes or concerns.
- Educates students to administer medications as prescribed by physicians, ensuring accuracy, proper dosage, and patient understanding. Monitored for potential side effects or adverse reactions.
- Train students to assess and manage wounds, including dressing changes, wound irrigation, and monitoring for signs of infection or healing progression.
- Guides students on how to insert NGT, confirming its placement, administering feedings, and handling complications.
- Demonstrate to students the proper insertion and removal of urinary catheters with proper aseptic technique.
- Coach students to perform bedside blood glucose readings, administer prescribed medications as scheduled, and educate the client and family on proper diet and medication adherence to prevent hyperglycemic episodes.
- Teach students in priming and hanging a primary IV bag preparing and hanging a secondary IV bag and calculating IV rates.
- Instructed students on how to implement measures to ensure patient safety, such as fall prevention strategies, infection control practices, and proper use of medical equipment.
PSYCHIATRIC CENTER
Maria Josefa Recio Therapuetic Center, Inc.
(5 days rotation in a month with a maximum of 20 patients in an 8 hours shift.)
- Educate student nurses to assess patients' mental health status through interviews, observations, and evaluations of symptoms and behaviors.
- Train students to provide various therapeutic interventions, including individual counseling and group therapy, to help patients cope with their mental health challenges, develop coping skills, and improve patient's overall well-being.
- Trained students to manage crises and emergencies and implement appropriate interventions to ensure the safety of patients and others.
MEDICAL SURGICAL NURISNG PROFESSOR
(Southwestern University- College of Nursing)
(3 lecture days in a week)
- Plans engaging and informative lectures that cover essential topics in medical-surgical nursing, such as common diseases, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and nursing interventions.
- Selected appropriate teaching strategies, resources, and multimedia aids to enhance student learning.
- Provided constructive feedback to students on their performance, identifying strengths and areas for improvement in understanding medical-surgical nursing concepts and applying them in clinical scenarios.
- Assess students' clinical competencies and skills proficiency.
- Demonstrate clinical skills, techniques, and procedures, and oversee students as they practice and apply these skills in real-life patient care situations.
- Utilize clinical case studies, simulations, and scenario-based learning activities to enhance students' critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and decision-making skills in medical-surgical nursing.
- Engage in ongoing professional development activities, including participation in nursing conferences, workshops, seminars, and continuing education courses.
