1. Construction Stage
System Design and Infrastructure Planning:
Electrical Works:
- Design and specify power requirements for all AFC components, including ticket vending machines, gates, kiosks, and fare validators.
- Ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes (e.g., IEC, NEC, BS 7671) for wiring, grounding, and protection systems.
- Plan and design electrical circuits, load calculations, and ensure the provision of power backup systems (UPS) and surge protection.
- Coordinate with electrical engineers to ensure power is supplied safely and consistently across the AFC system.
Mechanical and Civil Works:
- Ensure mechanical systems like ticket vending machines, turnstiles, and barriers are properly designed, installed, and operational, including their interfaces with electrical and data systems.
- Review civil works such as the placement of hardware in stations, installation of ticket vending machines, gates, and kiosks. Ensure they meet physical requirements (e.g., space, structural integrity, accessibility, environmental protection).
- Ensure site preparation and conduit installation are done per system needs for both electrical and data wiring.
- Compliance with Safety and Industry Standards:
- Adhere to safety regulations and standards (e.g., ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety, ISO 14001 for environmental management).
- Ensure that electrical installations comply with safety protocols to prevent electrical hazards, such as short circuits, overcurrent, and fire risks.
- Ensure that mechanical and civil work meet local building codes, standards for structural stability, and seismic safety (if applicable).
2. Deployment Stage
System Installation, Integration, and Commissioning:
Electrical Systems:
- Oversee the installation of electrical components (e.g., wiring, power supplies, circuit breakers) ensuring correct voltage and safety.
- Coordinate commissioning of the electrical system, including the installation of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units, generators, and backup power systems to guarantee AFC system functionality during power outages.
- Ensure the grounding system (e.g., earthling, GFCIs, RCDs) is installed correctly for electrical safety, preventing potential electrical shock hazards
Mechanical Systems:
- Supervise the installation of mechanical components, such as ticket vending machines, barriers, fare gates, and kiosks.
- Ensure that turnstiles, ticket gates, and other mechanical systems integrate smoothly with electrical and communication infrastructure.
- Ensure that equipment is physically secured, preventing mechanical failures and ensuring long-term durability.
Civil Works and Infrastructure:
- Coordinate the installation of cabling, electrical panels, and control systems into designated civil structures (stations, terminals, etc.).
- Oversee the construction of shelters or protective enclosures for electrical and mechanical components.
- Manage structural integrity checks for mounts, brackets, or posts supporting AFC hardware.
Compliance with Local, National, and International Standards:
- Ensure that all electrical, mechanical, and civil work follows relevant local building codes, electrical standards and health and safety standards.
- Ensure electrical systems comply with data security regulations.
3. Operation Stage
System Monitoring, Maintenance, and Optimization:
Electrical Maintenance and Monitoring:
- Monitor power consumption of AFC systems to optimize energy usage and operational costs. Propose energy-efficient solutions such as LED lighting or low-power components.
- Develop a preventive maintenance plan for electrical systems (e.g., testing UPS, inspecting power lines, cables, and backup generators).
- Manage electrical troubleshooting, including dealing with power failures, voltage fluctuations, or circuit malfunctions.
- Conduct surge protection checks, ensuring that AFC systems remain safe from power spikes.
- Mechanical System Maintenance:
- Oversee the regular maintenance of mechanical components like turnstiles, ticket machines, and barriers. This includes checking for wear, lubricating moving parts, and replacing defective components.
- Ensure preventive maintenance of mechanical systems to avoid breakdowns, including monitoring the wear on ticket validators, machines, and gates.
