- Employed at a 20-bed capacity military hospital which mostly caters and admits military personnel, their dependents and civilian human resource personnel
- Usual cases that I have handled are wound care, medication administration, and patient evacuation to a Tertiary Military Hospital Facility
- During admissions or consultations who were mostly for observation, monitoring vital signs and relaying it to the Primary Health Provider
- Being a Military Nurse I am often designated to be a First Aider during Fire Shooting Trainings, Swimming Trainings, Physical Fitness Test, Weight Reduction Programs and standby Medical Team during take-offs and touchdowns of Military Aircrafts
- I am also exposed as part of the medical team to several vehicular accidents of uniformed personnel where we get to provide first aid or an immediate evacuation of the patient to the nearest hospital
- Apart from this, I am also trained to assist our Military Doctors during the conduct of Treadmill Stress Test to our military personnel who is above 40 years old or has an existing abnormal finding on their ECG

- I was assigned in the Hemodialysis Unit with more than 25 Staff Nurses, 5 Nursing Assistants, and 6 Technicians who caters 120 dialysis patients daily
- Mostly my job was focused on staffing, patient scheduling and the Units compliances to the Department of Health which is called the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) in addition to being an assistant to the Head Nurse when it comes to delegation and managing the unit
- Few of the additional tasks I was doing were assisting and coordinating patient care to their Primary Health Provider, allocating nursing and healthcare resources where needed, participating in hiring of new nursing staff and training new hires, creating schedules for nursing staffs and patient schedule for dialysis, resolving patients’ issues, creating reports for facility management and placing orders for equipment and supplies

- I was employed in the Hemodialysis Unit of an 80-Bed Tertiary Care Hospital where as a nurse I am overseeing the preparation of the delivery system, dialysate bath, and dialyzer and confirms that all mandatory alarm tests on the dialysis machine are performed
- I also review physician orders for dialysis patients, collects pre-treatment dialysis data, and reviews patient records prior to dialysis
- Pre-dialysis assessment is being done including obtaining patient vital signs and assessing the patient’s vascular access, laboratory findings, and the patient’s general health
- Verifies that patients are taking all prescribed medications
- Document findings of patient assessments and interventions and advises providers of any significant change in the patient’s condition and other pertinent information
- Monitors patient reaction to treatment and performance of dialysis machines
- Assesses, prepares, and cannulates a patient’s vascular access (including needle insertion in arteriovenous fistula or grafts for aseptic connection with dialysis equipment)
- Utilizes aseptic techniques to assess the patient’s temporary or permanent dialysis access (Intrajugular catheters, Subclavian catheters, Femoral catheter and Permanent catheter)
- It is also vital to perform keen observation and assessment on dialysis access (catheter, fistula, graft) for early sign off failure or infection
- I also conduct post dialysis assessment and patient discharge by evaluating treatment, documenting medication administration utilizing the appropriate protocols, assessing condition of vascular access, discharging the patient when vital signs are stable, and documenting and recording patient treatment data
- There are times that I needed to perform other treatments and diagnostic tests such as blood sugar testing and other tests required as part of patient treatment
- Blood transfusion during dialysis and to respond immediately in emergency situations during dialysis treatment.
