As Chairperson of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at the National Children’s Hospital, I oversee the ethical review and approval of all research protocols involving human subjects, ensuring compliance with national and international ethical standards.

The IRB is a Level 3 Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) and FERCAP-accredited, reflecting our commitment to the highest standards of research integrity and participant protection. In this capacity, I lead the review process, facilitate training for board members, and promote ethical research practices within the institution.

I also serve as a liaison with regulatory bodies, advocate for participant rights, and ensure that all research conducted adheres to principles of beneficence, justice, and respect for persons.

My leadership aims to foster a culture of ethical research that advances pediatric health while safeguarding the welfare of research participants.

As Chairperson of the Women and Children Protection Desk at Fe del Mundo Children's Hospital, I oversee the establishment and coordination of a dedicated support system aimed at safeguarding women and children who are victims of abuse, neglect, or violence.

My responsibilities include developing protocols for case screening, providing guidance for trauma-informed care, and collaborating with hospital staff and external agencies to ensure comprehensive support and protection.

One of the significant challenges I encounter is the absence of a trained social worker in the team, which requires me to take on additional roles in case management, advocacy, and resource coordination. Despite this, I strive to create a safe and supportive environment by leveraging community resources and fostering strong partnerships.

I am committed to promoting awareness and training to enhance our capacity to respond effectively to cases requiring protection, ensuring the dignity and well-being of women and children in our care.

As Chairperson of the Women and Children Protection Unit at the National Children’s Hospital, I lead the multidisciplinary team responsible for providing comprehensive care, support, and protection to women and children who are victims of abuse, neglect, or violence.
My role involves overseeing the implementation of protocols for case management, ensuring the delivery of trauma-informed services, and coordinating with social services, law enforcement, and legal entities to advocate for the rights and welfare of vulnerable populations.
I also promote awareness and education programs to prevent abuse and strengthen community partnerships.
Through strategic leadership, I aim to create a safe and responsive environment that empowers victims and facilitates healing and justice.

As Medical Director of Fe del Mundo Children's Hospital, I played a pivotal role in guiding the hospital through the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Under my leadership, the hospital became the first and only private healthcare facility in the region to accept purely COVID-19 patients, positioning us at the forefront of the national response. This achievement required rapid adaptation of protocols, resource mobilization, and staff training to ensure the safety of both patients and healthcare workers amidst limited resources and evolving guidelines. I spearheaded efforts to establish dedicated COVID-19 units, optimize patient care, and coordinate with government agencies and other healthcare institutions to ensure efficient management of cases. Despite numerous challenges, including supply shortages, safety concerns, and the emotional toll on staff, I prioritized maintaining high standards of care, transparency, and staff well-being.

In addition to managing pandemic response, I successfully established the HIV clinic at Fe del Mundo, expanding our hospital’s services to provide specialized care, testing, and support for patients living with HIV. This initiative aimed to improve early diagnosis, treatment adherence, and overall health outcomes for this vulnerable population. My leadership contributed significantly to strengthening the hospital’s capacity to deliver comprehensive, compassionate healthcare during a critical period, reaffirming our commitment to serving diverse patient needs.
