SIGNIFICANT RESEARCH AREAS

  • Thesis: An Evaluation of how the Commission on Elections and National Agencies Render Spaces to the Indigenous Peoples’ Right to Suffrage in the Philippines
  • This is my final paper as a college requirement. It focused on the recurring question on whether the indigenous peoples are given the right to exercise democratic activities in an equal stand. The Commission on Elections together with other government and non-government agencies opened an inter-agency that paved way for the prioritization of the indigenous peoples during election and even during pre-election activities. As an advocate, I started the thesis by interviewing people from both the inter-agency and the IPs themselves on whether the pilot project conducted in Mindoro is indeed an additional support to the enhancement of government services and the development of the IPs exercise of democratic rights.
  • Research Paper: Failure of International Drug War
  • This is a research paper about the failure of the drug implementation in the United States of America, compared to the successful decriminalization of drug intake and usage in Colombia. It focuses on course International Relations and how countries despite the differences in policies and mediums of law implementation gather solutions and take actions to be implementation internationally.
  • Research Paper: A Comparative Study on Southeast Asian Terrorism

It also focuses on the impact of their existence and the number of occurrences in which these countries dealt with both cultural and religious chaos.
  • Research Paper: Cultural Crisis Beyond Barriers
  • This is a research paper on the never-ending problem regarding Myanmar’s disownment of the Rohingya tribes in their country. The issue in the news as flashed, that these ethnic tribes are stranded in small boats begging for help and alms in neighboring countries. The paper deals with the historical preview of the said tribe and their disposition as Myanmar locals. It also focuses on the actions taken by international organizations to help and aid their tension and suffering.
  • A Comparison on Culture: Philippines and Thailand
  • I conducted a field work and actual observation in both countries in 2015. This research was done to state the major differences and similarities between Thailand and the Philippines. Known for their similar way of living, physical characteristics of both the place and of the people, and economic standard, this research seeks to specify the distinctive features of each country focusing on religion, culture, historical background and social orientation.
  • An Evaluation of the Increase in Tourism in Baler, Aurora
  • In line with the syllabus of my Qualitative Politics subject, I conducted research in Baler, Aurora to evaluate the effects of tourism (both positive and negative) to the people and locals. This research explained concluded that despite the increase of tourists every year, the Local Government Unit of Aurora manifests efficiency and diligence in handling its duties. It was also shown that the increase in tourism renders a positive effect to the municipality/province.
  • Children in Armed Conflict in Mindanao: Reflections of War, Submission to Violence and Culture and Governance in Action
  • For years, sounds of explosions and imprints of struggles surrounded parts of the country, especially in the 2nd largest major island in the Philippines; Mindanao. The alarming growth of terrorist activities in the area has always been the cause of disturbance in the society, thus sustainable peace advocacies are laid out by both state and non-state actors for people affected by armed conflict. Terrorism is not in any way new to the ears and eyes of the people, and in discussions in the global arena. There are hundreds of documentations recorded visualizing war and its adverse effect to people, thousands of researches written explaining and analyzing the complexities of war, and millions of voices crying out for help in defense of their rights to life and their families. This article shall browse through discussions on armed conflict in Mindanao, reasons to why children are immersed in the idea of violence and the role of culture and governance in thrusting immediate solutions and aid to the sector which is most likely to be defenseless in these events; the children.
  • Free from the Bounds of Complexity: The Significance of Ethnicity in Archaeology in the 21st Century
  • The mentioning of the word ethnicity in academic discussions portrays a stigma of complexity. The notion implies that when ethnicity is incorporated in archaeology, the challenge of gathering credible and valuable data is heightened; thus, leading to some negating the idea of going through such discourse. The essay shall pave way for emphasizing the significance of incorporating ethnicity in archaeology, and its existence as a relevant factor in studying material culture. In structure, the paper seeks to explain that despite the criticisms laid down by most archaeologists, ethnicity has a room in the field of archaeology and it is something that could not be disregarded just because of its fluidity. The paper shall first lay down the pessimistic view of scholars towards the study of ethnicity, then it shall narrate its purpose of defending its significance. The purpose of the paper is not geared towards debunking all criticisms against it, for it has been a long-term and well-discussed debate amongst great names in archaeology, but to shed an amount of insight that may be helpful in furthering the search for a better application of the notion despite its negated standing.
  • Are they Linked? A Critical Discourse of the Presumed Correlation between the Existence of Outrigger Boats in the Southeast Asian-Pacific Region and the Theory of Austronesian Migration
  • In 2012, a part of a canoe was revealed and discovered in a coast in New Zealand. Therefore, the paper seeks to point down whether the discovery of the Anawaka Canoe can be used as a research priority in Maritime Archaeology applied to migration theories; the paper explains implications of the recent discovery and its historical background on Maritime Archaeology as a discipline, it states descriptive explanation on outrigger canoes, explains further migration theories related to the Austronesian Migration and finally points down the limitations on the presuming that migration is directly connected to the similarities of outrigger boats in Southeast Asian Pacific Region.
  • Reviewing Ancient DNA Studies on Dog Domestication: Using Fundamentals of Archaeology and Genomics in Analyzing Future Discoveries
  • Archaeogenetics is the discipline which employs archaeological and molecular genetic methods in order to provide basis for the dispersal, existence, and extinction, of species. In terms of dog domestication, innumerable literature has been available since the time of Charles Darwin in the 19th Century, in pursuit of explaining how and when dogs have evolved from single originating species (Canis lupus) down to the current and extant breeds of Canis familiaris. Recently, there was a news article on the introduction of a prospective indigenous breed of canine in the Philippines. The ‘Aso ng Gubat’ is hypothesized to have existed with the early communities in Mindanao 36,000 years ago. The date proposed by the article supersedes all literature on the evolution and dispersal of the Canis species. By reviewing phylogenetic studies on evolution, dispersal and ancient DNA of the domestic dog in Eurasia, MSEA, ISEA, and the Oceania, this paper seeks to review known researches on the traces of dog domestication in the regions above-mentioned, and to use those as basis for interpreting the recently introduced ‘Aso ng Gubat’ in the Philippines.
